A Stawell abattoir has been fined for dumping sheep carcasses. Read More
Stawell's Frewstal abattoir has coped a hefty fine from the Environment Protection Authority for dumping sheep carcasses.
The abattoir was fined $6107 for dumping animal carcasses, treated timber and concrete in pits on farm land near the abattoir site.

The EPA's Tim Easton told The Age newspaper that seeking to save money by not taking waste to landfill will prove costly in the long run.

A Frewstal spokesman said the company-owned land was cleared by October under the guidance of the EPA.

''The fine has been paid and Frewstal regrets the incident, and has put in place a comprehensive waste management plan … to ensure all waste is disposed of correctly,'' he said.

''This incident … has highlighted a practice that is not acceptable.''
